Ford Expands F-Series Super Duty Production to Canada, Adds Multi-Energy Technology

Ford Motor Company has announced plans to expand production of its popular F-Series Super Duty pickups to the Oakville Assembly Complex in Ontario, Canada, starting in 2026. This strategic move aims to meet growing customer demand and support Ford's long-term growth strategy.

Increased Production Capacity

The expansion will add initial capacity for 100,000 F-Series Super Duty trucks at the Oakville facility. This addition complements existing production at the Kentucky Truck Plant and Ohio Assembly Plant, which are currently operating at full capacity. The move is driven by strong demand for Super Duty trucks in Canada and North America.

Jim Farley, Ford President and CEO, stated, "Super Duty is a vital tool for businesses and people around the world and, even with our Kentucky Truck Plant and Ohio Assembly Plant running flat out, we can't meet the demand."

Job Creation and Economic Impact

The expansion is expected to create significant employment opportunities in Canada. Ford projects that approximately 1,800 jobs will be secured at the Oakville Assembly Complex, with an additional 150 jobs at the Windsor Engine Complex for V8 engine manufacturing. Unifor-represented employees at Oakville are set to return to work in 2026, a full year earlier than previously planned.

Investment and Facility Upgrades

Ford plans to invest approximately $3 billion in the expansion, with $2.3 billion allocated to install assembly and integrated stamping operations at the Oakville Assembly Complex. This investment will transform Oakville into a fully flexible manufacturing facility.

Multi-Energy Technology and Future Plans

A key aspect of this expansion is the introduction of multi-energy technology for the next generation of Super Duty trucks. This move aligns with Ford's commitment to electrification and environmental sustainability while providing customers with more powertrain options.

Ford also reaffirmed its commitment to developing electric vehicles, including plans for three-row electric utility vehicles. The company aims to leverage its experience as a leader in U.S. three-row utilities and its position as America's second-largest electric vehicle brand.

Market Position and Strategy

Kumar Galhotra, Ford Chief Operating Officer, emphasized that this investment is consistent with the company's Ford+ plan for profitable growth. The expansion is expected to strengthen Ford's manufacturing footprint and maintain its truck leadership in North America amidst rising competition in the EV market.

In conclusion, Ford's expansion of F-Series Super Duty production to Canada is a major step in meeting customer demand, creating jobs, and positioning the company for future growth in both traditional and electric vehicle markets.
